Fiction Friday: Gone With the Wind edition

Warning: The following post may contain spoilers. Proceed at your own risk.

The Resident Ulpanistit (TRU) recently finished reading Margaret Mitchell’s “Gone With the Wind”.

Brief interjection: Please note that she BA”H read the entire 1037-page (but who’s counting) epic in the original English! Well done, TRU! </maternal boasting>

Anyway, she enjoyed the book immensely but was somewhat perturbed by the abrupt ending.

I assured her that everything works out – although I cautioned her that a certain so-called “anonymous” Swedish-speaking commenter will probably tell her otherwise.

Please help me alleviate TRU’s understandable concerns by leaving a comment confirming that Rhett Butler does, indeed, come back…smile_teeth

  1. Why should he come back? She's too self-centered.

  2. well, he came back in the sequel, but that wasn't written by Margaret Mitchell, so it doesn't count.

  3. Shavua tov!

Leora - I like to think that by the end of the book, when she comes to her senses, she learns to put her love for him above all and that he comes back and that they live happily ever after...
    :-)

SuperRaizy - Don't get me started on that so-called "sequel". Let's just say that I'm not exactly a fan...

  4. Agreed-
The sequel was ridiculous, and an insult to the original work.

  5. SuperRaizy - Exactly! I remember thinking, "Hello?? Did this person even READ 'Gone With the Wind'?!" And to make it worse, Margaret Mitchell's estate apparently handpicked the writer, because they believed that she would remain true to MM's style!

"Anonymous" - I figured this was a good way to get a comment from you! (I love it when a plan comes together... :-) )

  6. I hope that Rhett's happy in the end, whether he comes back or not. How's that for a switch.

  7. Muse - Does the DVD have any extras besides the movie itself?
