  1. "Are you going to put that on the blog?" - this one got a definitely

"Is it my turn on the computer yet?" - why in the world this should sound familiar when we have 4 of them...but son claims it is said

"Come here. Don’t yell across the house." I've said this, but apparently it has never ever been heard.

  2. In our house, it's more like, "you're NOT going to put this on the blog... or on YouTube." And sadly, I (mostly) force myself to respect the older kids' requests. Too bad; in so many ways, they're funnier than ever!

(now, if I'd been blogging anonymously, that would be another matter - but as it is, if they google their name, they can find where I've talked about them!)

(true story: dd1 googled her first and last name and found a story I wrote about her in Chicken Soup for the Mother Daughter Soul where I described her, a skinny newborn, as a "chicken baby." How mortifying!)

  3. In our house, it's "Wash your hands. Did you wash your hands? Did you use soap? Go back and wash them again."

  4. At The Muqata:

    - “Is it my turn on the computer yet?”

    - “What’s for supper?”

    - “I can’t fall asleep.”

    - “Are you going to put that on the blog?”

    Also:

    - Why are you always asking ME to do the dishes/clean the bathroom?

    - What's there to eat?

    - [on the phone] Do you know what time it is? Why aren't you home yet...

  5. Leora - I've said this, but apparently it has never ever been heard.
Yeah, apparently there's no correlation between what a parent says and what the kids hear...
    :-)

Jennifer - Depending on the speaker, “are you going to put that on the blog?” can either mean:
    a) "please put this on the blog;"
    b) "please don't put this on the blog;"
    - or -
    c) "I dare you to put this on the blog..."
    :-)

Raizy - Hey, I *just* said that... :-)

Jameel - Why are you always asking ME to do the dishes/clean the bathroom?
LOL! Similarly, each one of the Shiputzim kids claims that s/he does ALL the work around here and that everyone else does, well, nothing...
    :-)

  8. Overheard in the Miriyummy household:

"There's no food in this house!" -- this just after stocking the fridge and the pantry, but with veggies and other good stuff, not crembos.

"You can't eat it yet, Mommy has to take a picture of it first!"

    "The dog farted, again!"

"I want doesn't get" -- my husband's way of getting his/my kids to say please.

"There's no television in there!" -- said by me when one of the kids has been staring into the fridge for too long. My mother always said it to me (but in Yiddish), I say it to the kids (but in English), and they will probably say it to their kids (most probably in Hebrew). Don't you love family traditions?

  9. Miriyummy - they will probably say it to their kids (most probably in Hebrew).
Ah, but you skipped a generation: the Heblish generation, which comes between the English and Hebrew generations... :-)

LOL! Isn't it amazing how many syllables can be added to the word "Imma"?! :-)
