Freshly Baked Goods Friday: Meta Challah Edition

To continue the previous post’s sheaves of wheat theme, check out the incredible challah that one of our yom tov guests made for Shavuot:

In case you can’t tell - as always, click on the photos for a better view – it was supposed to look like a bundle of wheat.

Or, to put it in hashtag terms:

Wheat flour that was baked into a challah and then shaped into wheat stalks #HowMetaCanYouGet

Open-mouthed smile

Thank you, dear Yom Tov Guest! The challah tasted as good as it looked!

  1. Wonderful! A lot of fun - making challah into shapes. The week of the key challot, I decided to make a challah in the shape of a key for the first time (it's not a family minhag, but I was having fun). It came out a bit like a cross, said one young visitor. Then I read somewhere the questionable origins of schlissel challah ...

  2. Yaffa - I had the same reaction!

    Leora - LOL! :-)

  3. Stupendous! I have tried to do this before, but found the challah shape got distorted during rising and baking. In general, I have had this problem with specialty shapes. So, very nice job by your guest.

  4. Laura - Thanks! Another problem with specialty shaped challahs is that it's sometimes difficult to figure out how to cut them. But since this challah was essentially a rectangle, YZG had no problem at all! :-)
